Custom Cafe & Snack Boxes
Cafe and snack packaging operates in one of the highest-frequency, highest-pressure commercial environments in the food industry. A busy cafe at 8am is handling dozens of orders simultaneously – sandwiches, wraps, salads, pastries, and snacks are being assembled, packaged, and handed over at a pace that leaves no room for packaging that’s slow to assemble, awkward to close, or difficult to carry. In this environment, packaging that doesn’t work practically costs time and money.
At the same time, the cafe and food-to-go market in Australia has become increasingly brand-conscious. The packaging a customer carries out of a cafe – a branded sandwich box, a custom wrap bag, a printed snack container – is a mobile brand impression that travels beyond the cafe itself. For cafes and food businesses that have invested in their brand identity, the packaging is an extension of that investment into the customer’s daily routine.
Our custom snack packaging and takeaway containers are manufactured to suit the specific product format, service environment, and brand requirements of your food-to-go range. We’ve been supplying cafe and snack packaging to Australian food businesses since 2017, with eco friendly packaging options available across the full range.

Cafe & Snack Categories We Package
We manufacture custom packaging across the full range of cafe and snack food formats. Each category has its own dedicated page with detailed product-specific information.
Sandwich Boxes
Custom packaging for sandwiches, rolls, bagels, and filled bread products sold through cafes, delis, and convenience retail. Sandwich boxes need to protect the product from compression during transit, maintain freshness for the expected holding period, and be easy to open and eat from. Available in a range of sizes to suit different sandwich formats, from small rolls to large filled baguettes.
Wrap Boxes
Custom packaging for wraps, burritos, and rolled food products. Wraps present a specific packaging challenge – the product is long, relatively narrow, and needs to be held securely without being compressed in a way that causes the filling to burst. Wrap boxes and sleeves need to hold the product at the right pressure to keep it intact without squashing it.
Salad Boxes
Custom packaging for salads, grain bowls, and fresh food products sold through cafes, salad bars, and health food outlets. Salad boxes need to be moisture resistant on the interior, stackable for efficient storage, and easy to eat from directly. Window panels are common for salad packaging – the visual appeal of a well-composed salad is a primary selling point that the packaging should showcase.
Waffle Boxes
Custom packaging for waffles, crepes, and griddle-cooked food products sold through cafes, markets, and food trucks. Waffle boxes need to handle the heat of the freshly cooked product, provide adequate ventilation to prevent the product from steaming and becoming soggy, and be easy to eat from in a standing or walking context.
Popcorn Boxes
Custom packaging for popcorn sold through cinemas, food trucks, events, and retail. Popcorn boxes are a high-volume, fast-turnover format – they need to be quick to assemble, hold a defined volume of product, and provide a print surface that communicates the brand or the event context. Available in a range of sizes from single-serve through to large share sizes.
Snack Boxes
Custom packaging for mixed snack products, trail mix, chips, and other portable snack formats sold through cafes, convenience stores, and food service. Snack boxes are available in a range of configurations from single-serve to sharing sizes, with options for window panels, easy-open closures, and resealable formats.
Choosing the Right Cafe & Snack Box Configuration
The configuration decisions for cafe and snack packaging depend on the product format, the service environment, and the expected duration between packaging and consumption.
Assembly speed is a practical requirement in cafe environments. A packaging format that takes fifteen seconds to assemble is commercially viable in a retail context but can create bottlenecks in a high-volume cafe service. Custom printed boxes that pre-fold, lock without adhesive, and close cleanly without requiring two hands free are practical assets in a busy service context. Protection of the product through transit is equally important – a well-designed box provides both speed of assembly and structural protection from counter to customer.
Hot food vs cold food have different material requirements. Hot sandwiches, freshly cooked waffles, and warm snacks need packaging that can handle heat without deforming, conducting heat to the consumer’s hands uncomfortably, or allowing moisture to build up inside the package in a way that makes the product soggy. Cold sandwiches and salads need packaging that maintains the freshness of the product without trapping moisture. The material specification for hot food packaging and cold food packaging are different, and they should be treated as separate briefs.
Immediate consumption vs short-term holding. A cafe sandwich eaten within fifteen minutes of purchase has different packaging requirements to one purchased from a convenience store and eaten two hours later. For immediate consumption, the packaging needs to be easy to open and eat from, and freshness maintenance over extended periods is less critical. For products held for a period before consumption, moisture management, freshness preservation, and structural integrity over time become more important.
Takeaway and delivery requirements. The rapid growth of food delivery platforms in Australia has added a new set of requirements to cafe and snack packaging. A sandwich or salad that holds up well for a counter handover may not hold up equally well after fifteen minutes in a delivery bag. For cafes and food businesses with a significant delivery component, the packaging specification needs to account for the additional time and handling conditions of delivery.
Cafe & Snack-Specific Considerations
A few properties of cafe and snack products that create specific packaging requirements.
Food safety for ready-to-eat products. Cafe food and snack products are ready-to-eat items that go directly into the consumer’s mouth without further cooking. The packaging materials need to meet food safety standards for direct food contact – not just for the initial packaging, but for the duration of the holding period before consumption. Materials that are food safe at the point of packaging but leach chemicals or break down over time in contact with food are not suitable for ready-to-eat applications.
Moisture and oil from fillings are a constant challenge. Sandwiches with dressings, salads with vinaigrette, waffles with syrup, and snacks with oil content all produce moisture or oil that can migrate into packaging materials. A box that absorbs moisture from a dressed salad will become soggy and lose its structure within minutes; a box that repels the moisture keeps the product in a presentable container for the duration of its holding period. Grease and moisture resistant materials or linings are worth specifying for any product with significant moisture or oil content.
Ventilation for hot food. Hot food sealed in an airtight container will steam – the moisture produced by the heat of the food has nowhere to go, and it condenses on the interior of the packaging. This condensation falls back onto the food and makes it soggy. For hot sandwiches, freshly cooked waffles, and hot snack products, ventilation – through perforations, micro-vents, or deliberately open closures – allows steam to escape without the food cooling too rapidly. The right balance between ventilation and heat retention is product-specific and worth testing before finalising the specification.
Sustainability expectations are high in the Australian cafe market. Australian cafe culture has a strong environmental consciousness – single-use plastic has been progressively phased out across the country, and customers notice and respond to the sustainability credentials of cafe packaging. Sustainable packaging solutions using compostable, recyclable materials and recycled content are increasingly expected rather than optional in cafe packaging. Reducing environmental impact through responsible material choices is part of the brand message for cafes and food businesses that position themselves on quality and environmental responsibility.
Brand consistency across all cafe touchpoints. A cafe’s packaging – the sandwich box, the salad container, the wrap sleeve, the snack bag – is seen by customers every time they make a purchase, and it travels with them beyond the cafe. Consistent branding across all packaging formats creates a coherent brand impression that reinforces the cafe’s identity in the customer’s daily routine. For cafes with a strong brand identity, the packaging design brief should treat all formats as part of a unified brand system rather than as separate products.
Print & Finishing for Cafe & Snack Boxes
Cafe and snack packaging sits in a pragmatic middle ground between the high-finish demands of premium gifting and the purely functional requirements of bulk food service.
Cafe branded packaging needs to represent the brand clearly and consistently across multiple formats. The brand mark, brand colour, and key brand messaging should be consistent across the sandwich box, the salad container, the wrap sleeve, and any other packaging formats used in the cafe. Full colour printing in CMYK is standard for branded cafe packaging, with the finish – gloss or matte laminate – typically chosen to match the overall aesthetic of the cafe’s brand identity.
Fast food and convenience snack packaging prioritises bold communication over refined finish – the packaging needs to communicate the product and the brand quickly in a high-traffic retail environment. High-contrast design, large typography, and a colour palette that reads well from a distance are all important. The packaging often needs to accommodate promotional messaging or seasonal variations without requiring a full redesign each time.
Eco friendly cafe packaging has its own visual language – natural kraft materials, minimal print, and design elements that communicate environmental responsibility. For cafes that use compostable or biodegradable packaging, communicating that sustainability credential on the packaging itself – through certification logos, material descriptions, or design cues – is part of the brand message.
Delivery packaging needs to hold up to the visual scrutiny of being received by a customer who’s seeing the packaging for the first time in their home. A well-branded delivery box or bag that arrives in good condition is a positive brand impression; a box that’s arrived damp, crushed, or dishevelled is a negative one. For delivery-specific packaging, structural durability and moisture resistance should be weighted alongside brand communication.
All boxes are printed using full colour printing in CMYK. Files should be supplied as Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or high-resolution print-ready PDF, with fonts outlined and graphics embedded. Free design support is included – we’ll produce a free 3D mockup for your approval before production begins, and handle minor artwork adjustments at no extra charge. Free dieline templates are available if you’re building your artwork from scratch.
