What makes our pouches Biodegradable/Compostable?
Kraft paper is a 100% biodegradable natural product. It is made from natural ingredients such as wood pulp. The pulp is made from long virgin fibres of maritime pine and is not bleached, to ensure minimum chemical processing and to retain the wood's natural colour.
Kraft paper biodegrades entirely naturally. Just like the leaves from the trees, kraft paper decomposes naturally within a few weeks, returning to its initial form of cellulose fibres, which can be fully assimilated back into its original natural environment, with no adverse impact on nature or human health.
Polylactic Acid (PLA):
Polylactic acid is derived from plants, a renewable resource, and it is used as a natural substitute for petroleum-based plastics and polyester products.
In the proper environment, PLA materials degrade naturally over time, making these products an environmentally responsible and practical choice for a number of applications, including medical and packaging requirements. PLA warps and degrades more quickly when exposed to excessive heat or humidity, which presents significant obstacles to using PLA in certain applications.
