Custom Cookie Boxes
Cookies cover more product variation than almost any other bakery category. A soft-baked chocolate chip cookie, a crisp almond biscotti, an elaborately decorated royal icing sugar cookie, and a sandwich cookie all have different shapes, different structural properties, and completely different packaging requirements. Add to that the fact that cookies sell across retail, gifting, wholesale, and online channels – each with different presentation expectations – and the range of packaging decisions involved is wider than it looks from the outside.
Our custom printed cookie boxes and custom cookie packaging are manufactured to suit your specific product, quantity, and sales context, using food safe materials throughout. We’ve been supplying cookie and biscuit packaging to Australian bakeries, patisseries, and gifting businesses since 2017, across everything from everyday cafe retail formats to premium seasonal gift boxes.

Choosing the Right Cookie Box Configuration
The right configuration for a cookie box depends more heavily on product type than it does for most other bakery packaging, because the structural and protective requirements vary significantly across cookie varieties.
Soft cookies vs hard cookies vs decorated cookies. These three categories have genuinely different packaging needs. Soft cookies – fudgy, chewy varieties with higher moisture content – need a box with good sealing properties to maintain texture over time; exposure to air dries them out quickly. Hard, crisp cookies are more tolerant of airflow but more susceptible to impact damage – the edges chip and crumble when cookies collide in transit. Decorated sugar cookies with royal icing are the most demanding of all – the icing surface marks on contact the same way a macaron shell does, and any movement within the box that allows cookies to touch each other will damage the decoration.
Single layer vs stacked configurations. Cookies are well suited to stacking in a way that most other bakery products aren’t – a stack of uniform round or square cookies in a sleeve or a tall box is a classic format. This works for hard, undecorated cookies where the base of one cookie resting on the top of another doesn’t cause damage. It doesn’t work for soft cookies where stacking causes surface marks, or for decorated cookies where the icing is on the top surface and can’t bear any weight.
Shape variation affects insert design. Round cookies are the easiest to configure – they sit consistently in circular compartments. Square and rectangular cookies work well in grid inserts. Irregular shapes – hand-cut, novelty, or freeform cookies – require either a looser configuration with more spacing, or custom-shaped inserts for premium applications. For a mixed assortment box, the insert design needs to accommodate the range of shapes you’re including.
Quantity configuration should match your primary sales format. Single and two-cookie boxes suit individual retail and premium gifting. Four and six-unit boxes are the standard gifting format. Twelve and twenty-four unit configurations suit wholesale supply and bulk gifting. Tall sleeve formats suit uniform stacked cookies for retail and online.
Cookie Box Styles We Offer
We manufacture custom cookie boxes across a range of configurations to suit different products, quantities, and sales contexts. All styles are available in custom sizes, materials, and finishes.
Single Cookie Boxes
Most commonly used for individually priced premium cookies, decorated sugar cookies, and wedding or event favours. A single cookie box is a complete presentation item – it needs to hold the cookie securely without any contact between the product and the interior surfaces, and it needs to look good enough to be given as a standalone gift.
Single cookie boxes work particularly well for decorated cookies where the design on the surface is the primary selling point. A window panel that shows the full face of the cookie – with the decoration visible before the box is opened – is the most effective format for this product.
Multi-Cookie Boxes
Four, six, twelve, and twenty-four unit configurations for retail, gifting, and wholesale. These are the core format for cookie gifting – a selection of varieties or flavours presented together is a natural gift structure that works for birthdays, holidays, corporate gifting, and events.
Internal configuration options depend on the product. Individual compartments are the right choice for decorated cookies or soft cookies where surface contact is a problem. A grid insert with spacing between each cookie suits harder varieties. A single open cavity with a tissue or parchment liner suits stacked uniform cookies where the presentation is less formal.
Window Cookie Boxes
A window on a cookie box serves different purposes depending on the product. For decorated sugar cookies, a transparent viewing window showcases the design on the surface – the artwork, the icing detail, the colour – which is the primary reason to buy a decorated cookie in the first place. For a mixed assortment, the window shows the variety and the colour range of the selection. For a single flavour with a distinctive visual texture – a dark chocolate cookie with visible chunks, or a seeded cracker – the window communicates product quality before the box is opened.
Window placement should be configured to show the most visually compelling part of the product. For flat cookies, a lid window or a full-face front window both work well. For stacked cookies in a tall box, a side window that shows the profile of the stack is the standard approach.
Cookie Gift Boxes
Cookies are one of the most versatile gifting products in the bakery category – they work for almost every occasion, every budget, and every recipient. Wedding favours, corporate giveaways, holiday gifts, and event catering all commonly use cookie gift boxes. The format needs to match the occasion and the price point of the product inside.
Our cookie gift boxes are available from everyday retail gifting formats through to premium rigid construction with foil stamping, embossing, ribbon closures, and custom tissue or shredded paper lining. The right level of finish depends on the positioning of your product and the gifting context – a corporate Christmas gift has different requirements to an artisan bakery’s retail gift box, even if the product inside is similar.
Cookie Sleeve Boxes
A tall, narrow sleeve format suited to stacked uniform cookies – round shortbreads, sandwich cookies, biscotti, and similar products where a cylindrical or rectangular stack is the natural presentation format. Sleeve boxes are efficient to produce, easy to display on a retail shelf, and work well for online and postal sales where a compact, secure format is practical.
Sleeve boxes offer a large continuous print surface on the exterior, which suits brands that want high visual impact with a simple, graphic treatment.
Cookie-Specific Considerations
A few properties of cookies as a category that affect packaging decisions and are specific to this product type.
Decorated sugar cookies require the same protection as macarons. Royal icing is smooth, brittle, and marks on contact – the same properties that make macaron shells challenging to package. Any lateral movement within the box, any contact between cookies, or any contact between the cookie surface and the lid or walls will leave a visible mark on the icing. For decorated cookies, individual compartments sized to hold each cookie snugly without applying pressure are essential, and the lid clearance needs to be sufficient to clear the highest point of any raised decoration.
Soft cookie texture degrades quickly without proper sealing. A soft, chewy cookie exposed to air will begin to dry out and firm up within hours. For pre-packed retail product that sits in a box for a period before sale, the sealing quality of the box matters. A box that closes securely – rather than one with visible gaps at the lid join – maintains the texture of soft cookies significantly longer. If your product is sold through retail channels where boxes may sit for a day or more before purchase, this is worth discussing at the specification stage.
Mixed flavour boxes can transfer aroma. In a box containing multiple cookie flavours, strong aromatics – spices, citrus zest, coffee, chocolate – can transfer to milder flavours over time. For premium mixed assortment boxes where flavour integrity is part of the product promise, individual compartment wrapping or sealed inner packaging for each variety is worth considering. For everyday retail mixed boxes this is less critical, but it’s a factor in premium gifting applications.
Crumb management in hard cookies. Crisp cookies produce crumbs when they chip or break. In a multi-cookie box without compartment separation, crumbs from one cookie settle on the surfaces of others and affect the presentation. A box with a smooth interior base that can be easily brushed out, or individual compartments that contain crumbs within each section, keeps the presentation cleaner on delivery and at the point of sale.
Seasonal and holiday demand is higher for cookies than almost any other bakery product. Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day are all peak periods for cookie gifting. Custom seasonal packaging – Christmas-themed prints, seasonal colour palettes, limited edition box designs – is a standard part of the product offer for bakeries with a strong gifting trade. Lead time planning for seasonal packaging is critical; production and freight need to be accounted for well before the peak period begins.
Corporate branded cookies. Custom cookie boxes with logo printing paired with branded cookies is a strong corporate gifting format – the cookie itself carries the brand identity, and the box reinforces it. Sturdy construction is important here, as corporate gift boxes often need to protect the contents through postal or courier transport. If you’re producing branded baked goods for corporate clients, the box design typically needs to accommodate the client’s branding rather than your own, which means the print specification may change between orders.
Print & Finishing for Cookie Boxes
Cookie packaging spans a wide range of visual contexts – from everyday cafe retail to premium holiday gifting to corporate branded product – and the print and finishing approach needs to match the specific context.
For decorated cookie gifting, the packaging design should frame and complement the cookie decoration rather than compete with it. The cookies themselves are often elaborately decorated, which means the box exterior can afford to be relatively restrained – a clean, elegant print treatment that enhances the presentation and lets the cookies be the hero. A transparent viewing window that shows the decoration to full effect, combined with a matte or soft-touch laminate exterior, is a consistently strong approach for premium decorated cookie gifting.
For seasonal and holiday product, bold, themed print treatments are appropriate and expected. A Christmas cookie box with a Christmas-specific design communicates the seasonal positioning immediately and reads as a considered gift. Foil stamping and spot UV both work well on seasonal packaging, adding a festive quality to the finish that plain print laminate doesn’t achieve on its own.
For corporate gifting, the brand requirements of the client typically take precedence over the aesthetic preferences of the bakery. Clean, professional print with a prominent logo placement and a minimal design language is the standard approach. The packaging needs to represent the corporate brand first, with the bakery’s identity in a secondary position.
For retail and everyday formats, full colour printing on a gloss or matte laminate with clear product identification and flavour description is the practical standard. Consistency across a multi-SKU retail range – the same print treatment across single, four, and twelve-unit boxes – builds brand recognition across all the formats your product appears in.
All boxes are printed using full colour printing in CMYK. Files should be supplied as Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or high-resolution print-ready PDF, with fonts outlined and graphics embedded. Free design support is included – we’ll produce a free 3D mockup for your approval before production begins, and handle minor artwork adjustments at no extra charge. Free dieline templates are available if you’re building your artwork from scratch.
