Custom Candy Boxes
Candy covers more product variety than any other confectionery category. Hard candies, gummies, lollipops, jelly beans, fudge, rock candy, sugar-coated almonds, and marshmallows all sit under the same umbrella, and each has different physical properties, different packaging requirements, and different markets it sells into. A children’s retail candy box, a wedding favour candy box, and a premium gifting candy box are three completely different packaging briefs – the visual language, the structural requirements, and the material specifications are all different.
Our custom made candy boxes and candy packaging boxes are manufactured to suit the specific product type, weight, and market context of your candy range, with custom candy boxes wholesale available for high-volume orders. We’ve been supplying candy and confectionery packaging to Australian businesses since 2017, across retail, gifting, events, and wholesale supply.

Choosing the Right Candy Box Configuration
The right configuration for a candy box depends on the product type, the sales channel, and whether you’re packaging a single variety or a mixed assortment – each of which affects the structural requirements, the insert design, and the presentation approach.
Pre-packed vs bulk. Candy is more commonly sold in bulk – scoop-and-weigh, pick-and-mix, or self-serve formats – than most other confectionery products. Pre-packed candy boxes command a higher price point and a stronger brand presence, but they require a packaging specification that suits the product weight, the portion size, and the retail or gifting context. If you’re moving from bulk to pre-packed supply, the packaging specification is part of the product repositioning.
Product density and weight. Candy is denser than most bakery or chocolate products on a volume basis. A box that looks small can be surprisingly heavy when filled with hard candies or gummies. The base construction needs to be specified for the actual filled weight, not just the box volume. For products sold in larger quantities – 250g, 500g, 1kg formats – the structural requirements are higher than the box size alone would suggest.
Single variety vs mixed assortment. A single-variety candy box – one flavour, one type – has straightforward packaging requirements. A mixed assortment box raises presentation questions: how is the variety shown, how are different pieces separated if needed, and how does the packaging communicate the range of what’s inside. For mixed assortments, a window configuration that shows the variety is typically more effective than print alone.
Portion sizing. Candy boxes range from small favour formats of 20 to 50 grams through to large gift and retail formats of 500 grams or more. The box format – dimensions, closure type, and construction – needs to match the portion size and the price point. A favour-sized box needs to feel complete and considered at a small scale; a large gift box needs enough structural presence to justify its price.
Candy Box Styles We Offer
We manufacture custom candy boxes across a range of styles to suit different products, markets, and occasions. All styles are available in custom sizes, materials, and finishes.
Retail Candy Boxes
Designed for supermarket, convenience, and specialty food retail. The packaging needs to meet shelf display requirements – stable base, adequate face area for product description, ingredient and allergen information, and barcode placement – while communicating the brand and product clearly at the point of sale.
Retail candy boxes benefit from bold, eye catching colour printing that matches the visual energy of the product and speaks directly to your target audience. Candy is a category where packaging colour plays an active role in sales – bright, high-contrast designs that showcase different flavours attract attention on a shelf where multiple competing products are visible simultaneously.
Candy Gift Boxes
A format for premium candy gifting – seasonal collections, artisan candy ranges, and specialty confectionery. Gift candy boxes are closer to the chocolate gifting format in their requirements: presentation matters as much as protection, and the finish and construction need to reflect the price point.
Common applications include Christmas candy collections, artisan fudge gift boxes, and premium hard candy assortments. The gift context allows more design freedom than retail shelf packaging – there’s no need to accommodate a barcode on the primary display face, and the finish options can extend to foil stamping, embossing, and ribbon closures for the premium end of the range.
Window Candy Boxes
A window is more important for candy packaging than for almost any other confectionery category because the visual appeal of candy – the colours, the shapes, the variety – is the primary reason to buy. A window that shows a mixed assortment of brightly coloured candies communicates more about the product in an instant than any amount of print description.
Window configuration for candy boxes should show the maximum useful view of the product. For a flat assortment, a full-face lid window shows the entire arrangement. For a taller box with layered product, a front panel window shows the depth and variety of the selection. For a single variety with a strong visual texture – a jar-style window box of jelly beans or hard candies – a large window that shows the colour mass of the product is the most effective approach.
Wedding and Event Favour Boxes
The wedding candy bar is an established tradition in the Australian event market – guests select from a range of candy varieties displayed in jars or trays, and the packaging for individual favours is part of the event aesthetic. Beyond weddings, candy favour boxes are popular for baby showers, birthdays, Christmas stocking stuffers, and special events of all kinds. They need to be small, elegant, and consistent with the visual theme of the occasion – typically personalised with names, dates, or event-specific details.
These boxes are handled individually by guests, often photographed as part of the event documentation, and taken home as a memento. The print treatment is typically more personalised and occasion-specific than for retail or general gifting, and the finish needs to match the formality and aesthetic of the event.
Halloween and Seasonal Candy Boxes
Halloween is the largest single candy occasion in the Australian calendar, and Christmas is the second. Both have established visual conventions and specific product associations that the packaging needs to reflect. Halloween candy packaging uses a distinct colour palette and set of motifs; Christmas candy packaging has its own.
Seasonal candy packaging is a significant business for candy producers and retailers with a strong seasonal trade. The lead time planning requirements are the same as for other seasonal confectionery – production and freight need to be factored in well before the peak period. For Halloween, orders placed in August or September allow adequate time for air freight production and delivery before the October peak.
Pick-and-Mix Style Boxes
A format designed to communicate the self-selection appeal of pick-and-mix candy in a pre-packed format. These boxes typically feature a large window or a transparent panel that shows the full contents, with a print treatment that evokes the visual excitement of a pick-and-mix display.
Pick-and-mix style boxes work well for mixed assortment products where the variety and colour of the contents is the primary selling point. They’re common in specialty candy retail, online candy gifting, and event favour formats where a personalised assortment is part of the product offer.
Candy-Specific Considerations
A few properties of candy as a category that create specific packaging requirements.
Sugar absorbs moisture, and moisture ruins candy. This is the most fundamental packaging requirement for candy and it applies across all candy types – hard candy clouds and sticks, gummies soften and lose their shape, fudge becomes sticky and wet. The packaging material needs to provide an effective moisture barrier for the expected shelf life of the product in the expected storage environment. For candy with a shelf life of months, the moisture barrier needs to maintain its integrity over the full period – not just at the point of packing.
Gummies stick together and to surfaces. Gummies and other sugar-coated soft candies have a tendency to stick to each other and to packaging surfaces, particularly at temperatures above ambient or when the product has been in contact with the surface for extended periods. Packaging materials with a smooth, non-stick interior surface, or a food-grade lining that prevents direct contact between the product and the packaging material, reduce this problem. If your gummies are regularly sold in environments with variable temperature – outdoor events, unrefrigerated retail – this is worth discussing at the specification stage.
Hard candy and brittles are fragile on impact. Hard candies chip and break on impact, particularly at the edges and corners of unique shapes and moulded forms. Packaging that allows hard candies to move freely will result in chipped product on delivery. For premium hard candy products where the shape and finish of each piece is part of the product value, die cut inserts that limit movement – individual compartments, a snug fill, or cushioning material – reduces impact damage significantly.
Children’s packaging has specific safety and labelling requirements. Candy is disproportionately consumed by children, and retail packaging that may be purchased for or by children needs to meet relevant safety standards. This includes allergen labelling that is clear and prominent, ingredient declarations that include all relevant additives and colourings, and for some product types, child-resistant closure requirements. If your product is marketed to children or is likely to be purchased for children, the packaging specification should be reviewed for compliance at the design stage.
Wedding candy bars require event-specific customisation. The wedding candy bar market in Australia involves high levels of personalisation – couple names, event dates, custom colour matching to the wedding palette, and specific candy varieties chosen by the couple. The packaging for wedding candy favours is typically a small run of highly customised boxes rather than a standard product. Lead time for personalised wedding favour packaging needs to account for artwork approval, production, and freight well in advance of the event date – at least eight weeks for air freight from the confirmed artwork.
Halloween ordering timeline. Halloween candy demand in Australia has grown significantly over the past decade and continues to grow. The peak is concentrated in a very short window – the last week of October – which means all packaging needs to be in stock before that window opens. Air freight lead time of 3 to 4 weeks from production means August is the latest practical point to place Halloween packaging orders without incurring expedited shipping costs.
Print & Finishing for Candy Boxes
Candy packaging spans the widest visual range of any confectionery category – from bright, saturated children’s retail packaging to delicate pastel wedding favours to premium artisan candy gifting – and the print approach needs to match the specific market and occasion precisely.
Children’s and everyday retail candy packaging benefits from the highest colour saturation and the most visually energetic design approach of any food category. Bright primary and secondary colours, bold typography, and high-contrast design are all appropriate and expected. Full colour printing in CMYK on a gloss laminate gives colours the maximum possible impact, and gloss finish adds a visual energy that suits the product category. This is one of the few food packaging contexts where restraint is the wrong approach – candy packaging is supposed to be exciting.
Wedding and event favour packaging sits at the opposite end of the visual spectrum. Pastel palettes, delicate typography, and a minimal design approach are the standard for wedding favour candy boxes. Matte laminate, soft-touch finishes, and foil stamp detail in gold or silver are the common finish choices. The packaging needs to feel elegant and considered, which means the same design sensibility as premium gifting packaging rather than retail candy packaging.
Premium artisan candy gifting – specialty fudge, artisan hard candy, hand-crafted confectionery – sits between the two extremes. The packaging needs to communicate craft and quality while still being visually engaging. Premium finishes like matte laminate with selective foil or spot UV detail, combined with a tactile feel that reinforces the handmade quality of the product, is a consistently effective approach for this market. Eco friendly material options are also available for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on presentation.
Seasonal packaging for Halloween and Christmas benefits from a bold, themed approach that’s immediately recognisable as seasonal. Halloween packaging in particular has a strong established visual language – orange and black, specific iconography – that customers expect and respond to. A seasonal design applied to a consistent box format, updated each year with a fresh execution of the seasonal theme, builds recognition while keeping the product feeling current.
All boxes are printed using full colour printing in CMYK. Files should be supplied as Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or high-resolution print-ready PDF, with fonts outlined and graphics embedded. Free design assistance is included – we’ll produce a free 3D mockup for your approval before production begins, and handle minor artwork adjustments at no extra charge. Free dieline templates are available if you’re building your artwork from scratch. Air freight and sea freight options provide a cost effective solution for different lead time and budget requirements.
