Custom Serum Boxes
Serum packaging occupies the premium tier of the skincare category in a way that no other product format does. The serum has become the cornerstone of the modern skincare routine – the concentrated, targeted treatment step where the highest-performing active ingredients are delivered in their most efficacious form. Consumers allocate more of their skincare budget to serums than to any other product category, and the price point reflects the premium formulation investment. A quality vitamin C serum, a retinol treatment, or a peptide complex can retail for $80 to $200 or more, and the packaging needs to communicate and justify that investment.
This premium positioning creates a specific packaging brief. A consumer paying $120 for a serum is making a considered investment in their skin, and the packaging needs to communicate that the brand has taken the formulation as seriously as the consumer is taking their purchase. Clinical precision, ingredient transparency, and a quality that communicates that every detail has been considered – from the dropper mechanism to the secondary carton – are all part of the premium serum packaging brief.
The serum format also has practical packaging requirements that standard moisturiser packaging doesn’t face. Many serum formulations – vitamin C, retinol, AHA/BHA serums – are sensitive to light and air oxidation, which affects the primary container specification significantly. Glass dropper bottles, opaque airless pumps, and amber glass are all common primary container solutions for light and oxidation sensitive formulations. The secondary carton provides an additional layer of protection and the primary brand communication surface.
Our custom serum boxes are manufactured to suit the specific serum format, active ingredient profile, and brand positioning of your serum business. We’ve been supplying skincare and beauty packaging to Australian businesses since 2017.

Serum Box Styles We Offer
We manufacture custom serum boxes across a range of styles to suit different serum formats and markets. All styles are available in custom sizes, materials, and finishes.
Dropper Serum Boxes
A format for serums in glass dropper bottle format – the most common premium serum presentation. The dropper bottle is a design object that communicates precision and clinical quality; the secondary carton needs to match that quality and hold the bottle securely without lateral movement.
Available in carton formats precisely fitted to dropper bottle dimensions, with insert configurations that hold the bottle in a centred, stable position. For brands with distinctive dropper bottle shapes – faceted glass, coloured glass, custom embossed bottles – the carton dimensions need to account for the specific bottle profile.
Airless Pump Serum Boxes
A format for serums in airless pump dispenser format. Airless pumps are used for formulations sensitive to air oxidation – retinol, vitamin C in ascorbic acid form, and other unstable actives. The secondary carton communicates the formulation protection rationale alongside the brand identity.
Available in carton formats suited to airless pump bottle dimensions. For brands with airless pump products, communicating the formulation protection benefit of the airless format on the packaging builds consumer understanding and trust in the technology.
Ampoule and Treatment Vial Boxes
A format for serum ampoules, treatment vials, and single-dose serum formats. Ampoules are individually sealed glass vials containing a single concentrated treatment dose – a format associated with professional skincare and clinical efficacy. The packaging needs to communicate the premium, clinical positioning of the ampoule format and hold the fragile glass vials securely.
Available in box formats that hold multiple ampoules in an organised arrangement, with cushioned inserts that protect the glass vials from breakage. For ampoule collections with multiple treatment types, the interior organisation system should allow the consumer to select specific ampoules easily.
Facial Oil and Treatment Oil Boxes
A format for facial oils, facial treatment oils, and oil-based serum products. Facial oil packaging has its own distinct positioning – oil-based treatments are typically positioned at the premium, luxury end of the serum category. The packaging should communicate the purity and quality of the oil and the skin transformation it delivers.
Available in carton formats suited to glass bottle oil dropper formats, with insert configurations that protect the glass bottle. For facial oil brands with distinctive bottle designs, the carton should complement and showcase the bottle rather than obscure it.
Serum Gift Sets
A format for serum gifting – a targeted treatment collection, a layering serum set, or a skincare routine starter set. Serum gift sets are among the highest-value beauty gifting formats – a curated set of complementary serums is a genuinely premium gift that communicates knowledge of and care for the recipient’s skin.
Available with premium construction and interior configuration suited to holding multiple serum bottles in a deliberate arrangement. The gift set packaging should communicate the collection as a complete, considered routine rather than a collection of individual products.
Choosing the Right Serum Box Configuration
The glass dropper bottle insert needs to prevent all lateral movement. A glass serum bottle in a secondary carton that allows lateral movement is at risk of two failure modes: the bottle contacting the carton walls, which can abrade the label or the bottle’s printed decoration, and the bottle shifting during transport, which can create impact stress at the dropper mechanism. The insert needs to hold the bottle in a fixed position at both the base and the shoulder or cap, preventing any lateral movement regardless of the carton’s orientation. For brands with narrow-based dropper bottles, the insert specification is particularly important because narrow bases are less inherently stable than wider ones.
Serum carton height must accommodate the dropper cap at its full height. A dropper cap – particularly a glass pipette dropper – adds significant height above the bottle body. The carton height needs to accommodate the full dropper cap height without the carton lid pressing down on the dropper mechanism. For brands with long or distinctive dropper caps, measuring the total height of the bottle in its capped configuration before specifying the carton is essential.
Light-sensitive formulation communication is a trust-building brief. For serums with light-sensitive formulations – vitamin C, retinol, certain AHA/BHA formulations – communicating why the primary container provides light protection, and why this matters for the formulation’s efficacy, builds consumer understanding and confidence. A secondary carton that explains the formulation’s light sensitivity and the protection the packaging provides communicates formulation intelligence and consumer care. For brands with technically sophisticated formulations, this communication is commercially valuable.
Ampoule packaging must protect fragile glass vials from breakage. Glass ampoules are narrow-diameter sealed glass vials that are broken open at the neck before use. They’re significantly more fragile than standard glass serum bottles, and the packaging needs to hold each vial in a fixed position with adequate cushioning to prevent contact damage between vials and between vials and the box. For ampoule brands shipping through courier networks, the packaging specification needs to be tested under courier drop conditions.
Serum-Specific Considerations
The serum is the most active ingredient-focused product in the skincare routine. The consumer who buys a premium serum is typically the most ingredient-literate consumer in the skincare category. They know the difference between L-ascorbic acid and ascorbyl glucoside, between retinol and retinal, between sodium hyaluronate and hyaluronic acid. Packaging that communicates active ingredients precisely – specific forms, specific concentrations, specific stability considerations – speaks directly to this consumer’s evaluation criteria. For premium serum brands, the ingredient communication on the secondary carton is the single most commercially impactful piece of packaging content.
Percentage concentration communication has become standard in premium serums. The convention of communicating active ingredient concentrations on the packaging – “15% vitamin C,” “0.3% retinol,” “10% niacinamide” – has become a standard in the premium serum market. Consumers understand these numbers and use them to compare products. For serum brands with genuinely efficacious active concentrations, communicating the percentage prominently on the front panel is a primary commercial differentiator. For brands with lower concentrations in competitive categories, the concentration communication needs to be accurate while the packaging emphasis is placed on formulation stability or complementary ingredient synergies.
The dropper mechanism communicates precision and clinical quality. The glass pipette dropper – the thin glass tube with a rubber bulb that dispenses the serum drop by drop – is so strongly associated with premium skincare that it functions as a quality signal in its own right. The presence of a dropper mechanism communicates that the product is a precise, concentrated treatment to be applied carefully rather than a product to be used generously. For serum brands developing their primary container, the dropper format communicates premium positioning through the mechanics of application.
Retinol and exfoliant serums require specific regulatory language. Serums with retinol, AHA, or BHA active ingredients may require specific label language under Australian cosmetic regulations – usage guidance for retinol regarding sun sensitivity, concentration-dependent regulatory requirements for AHA products, and appropriate sunscreen use recommendations. For brands with these actives, the packaging label language should be reviewed against current ACCC and TGA requirements before the artwork is finalised.
The premium serum consumer expects packaging quality proportionate to the price. A $150 serum is one of the highest price-per-millilitre skincare products in the consumer market. The consumer paying that price has an expectation for the packaging quality that needs to be met. A serum at that price point in a generic or low-quality carton creates an immediate value mismatch that undermines the consumer’s confidence in the product’s quality. For premium serum brands, the packaging investment needs to be proportionate to the product’s price positioning – the carton quality should make the consumer feel that their investment was well made.
Print & Finishing for Serum Boxes
Serum packaging has one of the most consistently premium and restrained visual aesthetics of any skincare category.
The premium serum aesthetic is defined by clinical precision and considered restraint. Clean white, black, or neutral base stock with minimal graphic elements, precise typography that communicates the active ingredient and concentration clearly, and a finish that communicates quality through touch as much as sight. Matte or soft-touch laminate is the dominant finish for premium serums – it communicates the precision and refinement of the formulation. Foil stamp on the brand mark or the active ingredient name adds a tactile distinction that communicates quality at first contact.
Ingredient-forward design places the active ingredient at the centre of the visual communication. A vitamin C serum whose front panel features the concentration and the vitamin C form prominently – above even the product name in some cases – communicates formulation confidence. For ingredient-focused serum brands, the ingredient communication is a design priority as well as an information requirement.
Amber and specialist bottle references in the carton design can communicate the formulation’s light-sensitive nature visually, even before the consumer reads the text. A carton design that references the amber glass of the primary container – through a warm amber tone, a circular design element that references the bottle form – creates a visual connection between the protection story and the packaging aesthetic.
Limited edition and collaboration serum packaging benefits from a design approach that maintains the clinical precision of the category while introducing the distinctive design element of the limited edition. A limited edition vitamin C serum might use a different colour palette, a special illustration, or a distinctive typography treatment while maintaining the ingredient concentration communication and the premium finish quality that define the brand.
All boxes are printed using full colour printing in CMYK. Files should be supplied as Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or high-resolution print-ready PDF, with fonts outlined and graphics embedded. Free design support is included – we’ll produce a free 3D mockup for your approval before production begins, and handle minor artwork adjustments at no extra charge. Free dieline templates are available if you’re building your artwork from scratch.
